Cori’s Note

Greetings! Our whirlwind week of testing is now almost complete. We successfully administered the PSAT/SAT and most of the CMAS assessments. Shout out to our amazing students who persevered through and also to our staff for the support it takes to navigate these waters.

We are also excited that our Wednesday Learning Center is up and going. Families and students who are eligible to attend the LC have been contacted directly to participate. As more room opens in the LC, we will reach out to additional families who have expressed an interest. If you have any questions about the Wednesday Learning Center,  please reach out to Farm School Director, Annie Bossange (anne_bossange@dpsk12.net) or  High School Director Leah Bry (leah_bry@dpsk12.net). In addition, we continue to think through ways in which we can provide more in-person instructional access to all students. Today we are including a link to a survey that solicits information from our Farm School families about the possibility of in-person learning 4 days a week. Please, please if you are a parent/guardian of a Farm School student share your opinion and thoughts with us regarding this possibility at this link.

This week’s memo contains some bittersweet news. Below you will find messages from Leah Bry and Carol Delong announcing their decision to move on from Denver Montessori after this year. Having had the opportunity to know and learn from these two amazing humans for the last year has been such a gift. Both Carol and Leah have been instrumental to the transformation growth and development of our program. We still have them here through the end of the year and I will be soaking up as much knowledge as I can until then.

From Leah…

This is a bittersweet moment: I am writing to let you all know that I will be leaving DMHS at the end of the year. I’ve worked at DMHS since the very beginning – 8 years! I’ve worn many hats, from Farmer to Science Teacher to Program Director. I love this community wholeheartedly, and will miss seeing our joyful, hilarious, and brilliant students and staff daily. The community we have built together is strong, resilient, vibrant, and beautiful. We are Denver’s first adolescent Montessori program and one of very few public Montessori adolescent schools in the world. I am so, so proud of DMHS! And, it’s time for me to get a bit of a rest, focus on my family and my health, and explore what is next for me. I’m definitely planning to keep in touch with DMHS and so many of you – my work in this community has meant the world to me. My non-DPS email is: leah.bry@gmail.com and you are welcome to reach out any time!

From Carol….

After working at DMHS and Gilpin Montessori and for over 11 years, I made the difficult decision to explore other career options.   It has been an honor to be part of the creation of Denver’s first public Montessori adolescent program and see it turn into a succesful  7-12 program.  I have known  some of the students since they were in ECE and it has been amazing to watch them grow into such wonderful human beings..    My heart is full of love and gratitude for the entire DMHS community and I am thankful for all that I have learned from my leaders, colleagues, families, and above all the students.  I am excited for the future of DMHS and look forward to finishing this year strong.   Please keep in touch caroldelong37@gmail.com

Over the past year, DMHS has experienced profound change from the onset of Covid, to many new staff members and a new principal (me) to the beginnings of return to a more ‘typical’ school environment. Through it all  we’ve remained a vibrant community of learners and citizens. With just seven weeks left of the year we intend to make the most of them! In-person Graduation is happening!!!! PROM is happening!!! Promotion is happening – HURRAY! And vaccines are now available to all DPS students and their families. Please see this link to sign up for this opportunity – YAY!!! I hope your week is ending on a positive note and that the weekend is both restful and relaxing. Warmly, Cori

Covid-19 Health and Safety Protocols Guide for Families  Thank you for following!

Health Updates

From Nurse Tracy:

Please find, linked here,  in English and Spanish, information on how to make an appointment for free COVID Vaccinations.

During the last year, COVID has affected so many families in our community resulting in the loss of loved ones.  These losses have resulted in significant and unexpected expenses for families.  With that, I want to make sure that you are aware of a FEMA program that is reimbursing up to $9000 of COVID-19 funeral-related expenses.  There are no citizenship requirements (for the deceased or the applicant) to be eligible for this program.

FEMA will begin taking applications for this program on April 12th.  Please look at the following website, collect the required documents, and submit your application as soon as possible.  https://www.fema.gov/disasters/coronavirus/economic/funeral-assistance”

DPS Free Covid Testing

DPS is pleased to announce we are expanding our partnership with COVIDCheck Colorado to offer our free COVID-19 testing for students to support a safe return to school.  Our full community of students and staff will now be able to take a baseline COVID-19 test before coming  back to school, and then we will be able to offer an ongoing COVID-19 student screening test every other week.

Registering for testing can be completed at any of COVIDCheck Colorado’s testing sites via this link.  We encourage everyone, unless you have tested positive in the last 90 days, to take a baseline test in the new year. The tests are free, fast, and reliable. You can see an updated list of testing sites here including sites at DPS schools at the Montbello campus, Abraham Lincoln Campus, North HS Campus, All City Stadium and a new site at George Washington HS. The test will be completed via nasal PCR test or SalivaDirect™, and results will be returned within 36-72 hours.

At any time, your family and your student can schedule a test at existing CCC sites. Any DPS student or employee should use our district link, while family members can continue to use the community link (https://www.primarybio.com/l/cdphe).
