Important Message to Families Regarding the Return to School October 13, 2020

Posted 10/13/2020

Dear DMHS Families,

Yesterday our Superintendent, Susana Cordova, the DPS Board of Education and our partners at Denver Health met to discuss the rising numbers of positive Covid cases in Denver, and the impact this may have on our in-person return to school planning. You may have already heard the possibility of a modified timeline for the return of our Secondary students.

Today, school leaders attended an informational session and received guidance to include a postponement of the in-person return date. At this time the district has identified that the earliest Secondary schools could return to in-person learning will be November 9th.

As you know, Leah, Annie, Carol and I had planned to hold a virtual Q&A session this afternoon to discuss in-person schedules, drop off/pick up and other related logistics. In order for our leadership team to meet to address this new extension date, we will be cancelling this afternoon’s session.

I want to name that for many of our families and students this may be disappointing news. And we know that our families will have questions about this change and the impact it may have on your children and how you plan forward. So that we can hear your concerns and answer your questions we will hold the previously planned parent session on October 15th from 5-6pm.

As early as this afternoon you should be receiving information from Denver Public Schools directly. This should include information regarding the decision making process. Please know that the entire DMHS team is here to support your children. We know that this has been tough on them and on our families and we continue to extend our deep gratitude as these changes are made.
