First of all, we want to give a huge round of applause to all our fundraising committee and supporters of our first ever Silent Auction! It was a wonderful evening – we had a full house at Pinwheel Coffee, amazing food prepared by our High School Culinary Team, and beautifully arranged auction baskets! The Silent Auction brought in $5,500, bringing the total funds raised to over $32,000! Thanks to the amazing work of the fundraising committee, parent and student support, 30 of our high school students are headed off to Japan tonight!
Our Farm School Students started new Occupations project classes today which will go towards their science credits. Students chose from Plant Propagation, Orchards, Pollinators and Bees, Nutrition, and Bicycles. A new group of students also started the Coffee Shop class today and will be frequently holding class at Pinwheel Coffee.
Our High School students not traveling to Japan just started a two week unit called a Pedagogy of Place. Students will study the formation of their own identity within Denver, the foothills, Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, whatever they define as their place. They will be going on several outings, complete readings and watch films , journal about their own interactions, and create a product that expresses their relationship with the place that most of them call home.
