DMHS Updates April 10
Dear DMHS Community,
We are heading into our busiest time of year! We will do our best to keep you informed on the many happenings as we wrap up a wonderful year. Please read this update carefully as there are some important upcoming events and updates:
PARCC Testing: Students will be taking the ELA PARCC this week starting on Monday during project classes. Please make sure your student comes every day well rested. We are so proud of our students and how seriously they approached the Math PARCC before spring break. The PARCC is meaningful practice for the SAT (the college entrance exams students will be taking in 11th grade), and so we are encouraging all of our students to approach the assessments with positive energy and perseverance.
DMHS High School: Work on the new high school space is underway! Kimberly Timmons, owner of KT Interiors, has donated her and her team’s time to design the classrooms and secure lots of incredible donations. High School committee members Taylor B, Michael B, Telis and Christian LL, along with DMHS grandparent Chris Molina, met with Kimberly and her team to finalize paint colors and classroom designs. DPS has donated all of the paint and materials, and 9th graders are painting the rooms during Res Life and Community Work. Next steps include ordering technology and furniture. We have our budget and will be finalizing orders over the next few weeks. This summer, DPS will be installing the new science lab and preparing two classrooms for the new art studio. Meanwhile, the HS Committee meets every few weeks to discuss all aspects of creating our new DMHS high school. If you would like to join this committee, please contact Rachel at firstname.lastname@example.org. Many thanks to all the parents, grandparents and students who show up regularly to these meetings!
Kick Off to Costa Rica Fundraiser (From Alana, Molly, Christian LL, Taylor B) :
The ninth grade students are putting on a spaghetti dinner, film festival and Shakespeare Festival premier to fundraise for their high school trip to Costa Rica next spring (2017). This event will include dinner and film festival and premier. The menu for dinner, prepared by our culinary arts occupation, is spaghetti, meatballs, salad, cupcakes, and brownies. We will be showing our many films made in residential life, and our Shakespeare Festival students will be performing.
Date: Thursday, April 21 at 5:30
Menu: Spaghetti, meatballs, salad, cupcakes, and brownies.
Entertainment: Films made in residential life, and our Shakespeare Festival premier.
Cost: $12 (9 and older) and $6 (8 and younger)
DMHS Farm: Congratulations to Andy and thank you to Waste Farmers for a huge donation!
Waste Farmers is donating enough soil and raised bed wood material for us to set up the DMHS Farm raised beds! We have already begun to move the wood and soil during community work time. But we need help! Is there anyone in our community that has an older, well used pickup truck with the bed open that would be willing to donate their truck to us for a few weeks? We need access to this type of vehicle to use for the next couple of weeks for Farm Duty in hauling soil and wood from the Waste Farmers site in Arvada. Andy would drive the truck and make sure it would be well cared for and treated with respect. If you have an extra truck that you would be willing to lend us, please contact Andy at email@example.com.
