DMHS Update March 4, 2016

Posted 03/07/2016

Dear DMHS Community,

Thank you for the incredibly generous staff appreciation gifts this week. End of February and beginning of March can be an exhausting time in the teaching world. Your gifts not only fill up our tummies but our spirits as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please see below a picture showing how beautifully the students arranged all of your gifts for us.

Here is a message from Kristin and the new Bicycle Occupation:

Some of our students will be starting a Bicycles Occupation this coming Monday (3/7). We would like to go on a short bicycle ride during class that day to familiarize these students with cycling and to get them excited about the project! We are looking for families who would be willing to let us borrow a few bicycles/helmets on Monday.

If you have a bicycle that you would be willing to loan, please contact Kristin (kristin_ann_oliver@dpsk12.net). We are also always in search of bicycle donations so that we can start working on creating a bicycle shop.

Thank you so much for all of your constant support!”

High School Design: Ninth grade students Christian LL, Taylor B, Michael B, and Telis accompanied DMHS grandparent Chris Molina to Kimberly Timmons Interiors today to look at designs for the new high school space. Kimberly and her team are donating their professional time and expertise along with helping to solicit furniture and other donations. Thank you Kimberly, your team and Chris for helping us to create an incredibly beautiful Montessori High School! See a picture below of our students participating in the design meeting.

Presentation of Learning: Congratulations to everyone for making last night’s presentation of learning a huge success. The students were impressive and our community was so present and supportive. What a wonderful event!

Spamalot: A late but heartfelt congratulations to the cast, crew and culinary arts team for a very successful dinner and musical theatre production. Truly a polished production that was so much fun to watch. Thank you to Robin and to all the DMHS students who were part of this successful production.

Girls and Science Day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  A parent shared with me that tomorrow is Girls and Science Day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  There will be lots of female scientists and an entry fee discount. Please go to this link for more information.

New Hexter starts Monday: We will be starting Hexter 5 on Monday. Please take a moment to check your student’s electronic portfolio to see if there is any “Work Due but Not Turned In”. If there is work listed there, can you please set time aside with your student this week-end to get that work completed? It makes a big difference when students can start a new unit with all old work completed.

Thank you so much for being such a wonderful community.
