Community Update 5-13-21

Posted 05/13/2021
Cori’s Note

Prom is on! Saturday evening our Sophomores,  Juniors and Seniors are invited to join in this somewhat unconventional and amazingly fun event – a themed movie night! A reminder that tickets are still available and Seniors are able to join for Free! Below is the link to purchase tickets along with a few additional details. We are continuing to celebrate our Seniors each day on our website and Facebook pages. Please be sure to check out the highlights of our amazing Seniors..

Next week brings us closer to the end of the year and you will soon be receiving the end-of-year email to include details about volunteering over the summer, registration for the coming school year, summer ‘homework’ and beginning of the year information. Two items we want to highlight now – transportation and Fall trips.  DMHS will have yellow bus transportation next year. We do not yet have the precise details regarding pick-up and drop-off or what the eligibility factors for transportation will be. Once we have all of the details we will be sure to get them out right away – we are hoping to know all of this information in the coming two weeks.

We are excited to share we are in the initial stages of trip planning for the Fall and Spring. This annual tradition was put on hold during the pandemic. As more of our students become eligible for the vaccine, and as health data continues a positive trend we anticipate being able to bring this important component of the Adolescent Montessori experience back into focus. In the coming week you will receive a survey to gauge parent and student interest in Fall trips. This survey will be an opportunity to hear from our community about your preferences and comfortability level and our goal will be to provide details regarding Fall trip prior to the last day of school.

Thank you for continuing to encourage your student to be on time to class (in person and remote), turn in work assignments and remain engaged to the very last day! Cori

Health Updates

From Nurse Tracy
The Pfizer COVID vaccination has been approved for children 12 years and older.  The governor has said that these vaccines will be available starting this weekend.  You have a couple of options to access these vaccinations:

I understand that any site administering the Pfizer vaccine will be able to administer it to children.  You can identify those sites on this website:

https://covid19.colorado.gov/vaccine/where-you-can-get-vaccinated#cvs

Children’s Hospital has partnered with the Department of Public Health and Environment to administer these vaccinations to this population.  You can register on this site now and they will contact you to schedule an appointment.

colorado/https://www.childrenscolorado.org/conditions-and-advice/coronavirus-covid19-resources-updates/get-vaccinated/

Finally here is some general information that discusses the vaccine for children.

https://www.denverpost.com/2021/05/12/covid-vaccines-kids-

I have one child in this age group, and she is actually really excited to get this vaccine and get back to a more normal middle-schooler lifestyle .  I have registered her through the Children’s site.  If you have questions or concerns about this and want to speak to someone with medical knowledge about vaccines, please contact me at Tracy_Smith@dpsk12.org.  I would love to discuss this with you and help you make the choice that is right for you and your family/student.
DPS Free Covid Testing

DPS is pleased to announce we are expanding our partnership with COVIDCheck Colorado to offer our free COVID-19 testing for students to support a safe return to school.  Our full community of students and staff will now be able to take a baseline COVID-19 test before coming  back to school, and then we will be able to offer an ongoing COVID-19 student screening test every other week.

Registering for testing can be completed at any of COVIDCheck Colorado’s testing sites via this link.  We encourage everyone, unless you have tested positive in the last 90 days, to take a baseline test in the new year. The tests are free, fast, and reliable. You can see an updated list of testing sites here including sites at DPS schools at the Montbello campus, Abraham Lincoln Campus, North HS Campus, All City Stadium and a new site at George Washington HS. The test will be completed via nasal PCR test or SalivaDirect™, and results will be returned within 36-72 hours.

At any time, your family and your student can schedule a test at existing CCC sites. Any DPS student or employee should use our district link, while family members can continue to use the community link (https://www.primarybio.com/l/cdphe).
